What is an EPC

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a legal document. It shows how energy efficient the home is. The EPC uses a banding scale from A to G, with an A rated property being the most efficient. The format may be familiar, it uses a similar layout to the energy efficiency labels on home appliances.

It's a legal requirement to get an EPC whenever a house is built, sold or rented. Many of the government backed energy efficiency grants need an EPC to access funding too. Recently, we're starting to see a trend of lenders requesting EPCs as part of remortgaging too.

Every EPC lasts for 10 years. You may already have one. Take a look at the central EPC register to double check yours. Remember, it's only a legal requirement to have a valid EPC when selling or renting a property.

The assessment is different and provides a picture of greater accuracy compared with the Domestic EPC. The onsite visit can take any where from 30 minutes to a full day depending on the size of your building. The real work begins offsite where the building is modelled in software to generate the Commercial EPC Score.

Why Do I Need An EPC?

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a legal requirement whenever a building is constructed, sold or rented. The idea is that it will give the buyers or tenants an accurate picture of its likely running costs.

How Do I Get An EPC?

The best way to get an EPC is to find a local Domestic Energy Assessor or Non Domestic for a Commercial EPC. We'll carry out an on site survey and produce your Energy Performance Certificate. This avoids any commissions or additional fees from companies that sub contract them.

How Long Does An EPC Last?

10 Years. You can check to see if you have an in date EPC on the EPC Register. Remember, it is only a legal requirement when selling or signing a new tenancy.

How Long Does An EPC Assessment Take

On average, the onsite EPC assessment takes 20 minutes for a home and a little longer for commercials. The EPC certificate is available before we leave your home. We need a little more time for Commercial EPCs

Where Can I Find My EPC?

The government publishes all EPCs to the EPC register. As soon as your EPC is complete, you be able to find it here. Just input your postcode and scroll to your building name / number. We'll also send you a link when your new EPC is complete.

How to Improve Your EPC Score (MEES)

Every EPC we complete comes with specific recommendations for your building. If you need a little more help we can provide consultancy to get you to the score you need.

Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) are looming. Landlords will need to make sure their rented buildings are a certain score. Domestic properties are likely required to be a C Band and Commercials requiring a B Band!
