About Your Energy Assessor - Ian Kay

Welcome to North West EPCs where I am your Energy Assessor.

Welcome to North West EPCs. I'm Ian Kay, your Energy Assessor, based in Latchford, Warrington, where I live with my family. The photo is me and my daughter on holiday in Benalmadina in April 2023. I run two businesses, my EPC business and a building company. Currently I'm trying to help more customers across the North West with EPCs and saving money on their energy bills.

My Qualifications

I hold various qualifications that let me carry out EPC assessments for my customers from City & Guilds and ABBE (Part of Birmingham University).

  • Domestic Energy Assessor
  • Non Domestic Energy Assessor (Level 3 NDEA and Level 4 NDEA)
  • MCS Certified Heat Loss Assessor

Let me know if you need help with a Domestic EPC or a Commercial EPC.

Why I Became an EPC Assessor

I've been in the building trade for many years and I was looking to diversify whilst being able to utilise the knowledge I already had. To complete an accurate EPC you need to have a solid understanding of buildings and how they work. Completing EPCs for my customers helps me to add additional value and offer a unique perspective on their homes and businesses because of my background.

I like helping home and business owners identify areas for improvement (and money savings) and I can offer that additional advice on implementing them. This has come in particularly handy when advising Landlords on the MEES regulations.

Energy security is topic that I am passionate about. If we can save and create energy we can all be less dependant on national infrastructure and generate substantial cost savings.

A Little More About Me

I'm pretty busy so work takes up a lot of my time. I'm running the two businesses and I've created and maintain this website. When I'm not working I like to spend as much time as possible with my family. We like to go out to local cafes for breakfast on Sunday mornings. Let me know if you have any recommendations. I try to get the occasional round of golf in aswell but this is becoming less and less frequent.

At the end of 2024 the plan is to climb Kilimanjaro! I've got plenty of training to complete between now and then which will include an attempt at the National Three Peaks in June. These events will be to raise money for two charities, Macmillan Cancer Support and The Roy Castle Foundation, two causes close to my heart. I'll be creating a JustGiving page soon and any donation would be greatly appreciated.
